About me

Roger Toledo Bueno was born in Camaguey, Cuba, in 1986. He graduated in painting at Vicentina de la Torre Academy in 2005 to continue his studies at the University for the Arts (ISA). At this institution he got his degree in painting in 2011. From that year and until 2017 he served as a professor of Painting and Critics at the Visual Art School of the University for the Arts. He currently lives and works in Havana.

His work, despite of its versatility, keeps a strong coherence due to two consistent fundamentals in his production: the pattern (simple geometrical elements used to segment the space) and the color. Roger explores in his painting conceptions about the image and its structure, with recurrent references to the universal and Cuban pictorial tradition. In his most recent series he approaches a more social speech, by giving his perception of a Cuba in the middle of changes and uncertainties.

He has taken part in several artistic residencies, academic exchanges, exhibits and has won awards and recognitions for his work. His work is in private collections in Europe, Latin America and the United States.
